Skate DC Weekend 2012 Schedule

 

 

HOTEL GROUP-UP is 30 minutes before skates leave the White House.  GROUP-UP is in front of the National City Christian Church on the corner of Massachusetts Ave and 14th Street (go left at the hotel driveway). The skate leaves the group-up area 15 minutes before the official skate time – please be on time! Skate leaders will skate you to the White House - please be cautious and skate single file to avoid pile ups. 

 

FRIDAY, MAY 18, 2012

7:00 pm HOTEL GROUP-UP

7:30 pm Monumental DC Skate Leaves White House (Beginner-Intermediate, 2 hours)

Skate along the Potomac at sunset, visit the Capitol, see a Smithsonian museum or two, the National Mall, and the Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and WWII monuments. Generally flat route.  The skate will stop at Froggy Bottom Pub on the way back to the hotel for pizza and beverages.  Sandals or flip-flops mandatory at Froggy Bottom!  Distance = 11 miles

 

10:30 pm Late Skate Leaves White House (Beginner, 1-2 hours)

Skate through city neighborhoods with Bill’s Disco Cart.  See some DC nightlife and make some DC nightlife.  When the Disco Cart is out, who knows what will happen!.  Distance = 8.7 miles

 

SATURDAY, MAY 19, 2012

Time 9:30 HOTEL GROUP-UP

Time 10:00 Saturday Morning skate Leaves White House (Intermediate/Advanced, a few hours) 

Skate alleys downtown and on Capitol Hill.  We will also check out Yards Park and skate from RFK Stadium to Nats Ballpark…all on trails.  We’ll throw in an hour at Eastern Market to shop and eat like a local – Bring flip-flops for the Market.  What more could you want?  Distance = 15 miles

 

3:00pm Free Try-out Lesson with DC Power Stilts at Vermont Ave and 14th St NW, immediately across (south) of Thomas Circle near the National City Christian Church GROUP UP location (where the CVS is).

It takes only minutes to learn the basics, but with practice you'll have fun running 25mph, jumping 6ft high, and looking cool, too! Prepare by bringing athletic shoes, your pads, helmet, and friends.

 

3:00pm - 4:30pm Skate of the Union (SOTU) Open House at TBD

Come and learn more about SOTU's weekend, Thursday, June 21 - Sunday June 24, where skaters from around the country will roll into the National Capitol region for four days of unparalleled excitement on wheels. Visit http://www.skateoftheunion.org/.

 

 

Time 4:30 HOTEL GROUP-UP

Time 5:00 Hill Skate Leaves White House (Intermediate/Advanced, should be 1.5 hours)

Check this space for a description of the Saturday afternoon skate.  Distance = 10 miles

 

8:00pm National Beer Patrol presents House of Brews!  The House of Brews started at Philly Freedom Skate ten years ago.  Continue the tradition with tasty homebrew and great skating friends.  Location in the hotel will be made obvious.  Distance = up to you

 

 

 

SUNDAY, MAY 20, 2012

Time 9:00 TBD HOTEL GROUP-UP

Time 9:30 Breakfast Skate Leaves White House (Intermediate, 2 hours)

Skate to the Kennedy Center, Georgetown Waterfront Park, Georgetown University, Duke Ellington's "Big Chair", Dumbarton Oaks, and back to the hotel by 11:30 am..  Distance = 10 miles

 

HOTEL CHECKOUT IS NOON

 

12:30 pm HOTEL GROUP-UP

1:00 pm Final Skate of the Weekend Leaves White House (Advanced, 3 hours)

A brisk and hilly skate through parts of DC you may have missed on the other skates.           Distance = 18 miles
